Craftsmen from Wilcare, the Cowbridge furniture manufacturer, have created a life size Christmas sleigh which they have donated to Tŷ Hafan Children’s Hospice.
Normally crafting contemporary motion furniture for the healthcare industry, the team has designed and built the two person wooden sleigh at their workshops on the Llandow Industrial Estate.
In addition, the craftsmen, Andrew Panes and Gwyn Hodges also handcrafted reindeer and snowmen garden decorations recycled from surplus wood, fabrics and buttons used in manufacturing Wilcare static and rise and recline chairs.
Andrew Panes, CAD and Frame Designer at accentu8 said:
“We wanted to use our in-house skills and technology to create something special for Tŷ Hafan and to put a smile on the faces of the children and their families this Christmas. This is our way of supporting the incredible work of everyone involved at the hospice and we hope the sleigh and decorations add to the festive celebrations at Tŷ Hafan.”
The sleigh first appeared at Cardiff Castle to launch Tŷ Hafan’s ‘Carols at the Castle’ event on 1st December and has now been relocated to their home in Sully.
Mair Kinsey, Events Manager at Tŷ Hafan said: “It was such an incredible surprise when the team at accentu8 delivered the Christmas sleigh, it was the perfect gift to unveil at our Carols in the Castle Christmas event and it will now take pride of place in our Tŷ Hafan home where the children can sit in and receive some wonderful gifts.”
